Background
Bill Rivers was born November 18, 1947, in Port Colborne, Ontario,
and attended Brock University and the Ontario Institute for Studies
in Education. Combining a successful teaching career spanning 32
years and, since 1986, a second career as an outdoor writer specializing
in remote and fly-in fishing destinations, has kept Bill busy.
Teaching & Community
Bill's
entire elementary school teaching career was spent in his home town,
Port Colborne, where he was active with community service groups,
student council, coaching badminton, and a school fishing club.
He is a Past President of the Port Colborne Lions Club and past
chairman of Port Colborne Lions Minor Hockey.
Outdoor Writing
Bill's
outdoor writing career began with a position as "field editor" for
ONTARIO FISHERMAN Magazine, a regional publication to which
he contributed for 10 years. Following that tenure, Bill began to
'freelance", contributing to several Canadian and U.S. national
magazines, including ANGLER Magazine, CANADIAN SPORTFISHING
Magazine, REAL FISHING Magazine, BASSMASTER Magazine,
and FIELD & STREAM. More recently, Bill has turned his attention
to the InterNet, posting two fishing "web-zines", Angling
Adventures and Ontario
Fisherman, as well as creating websites for fly-in
fishing lodges, outfitters and fishing-related businesses (tackle
manufacturers, tournaments). Bill now brings his broad outdoor writing
background and fishing travel experience to Fins & Skins
Fishing Travel
Specializing
in remote and fly-in fishing destinations, Bill has had the opportunity
to travel and fish throughout Ontario and across much of Canada.
Working with provincial tourism ministries, tourism & travel associations,
and outfitters, his outdoor writing features some of the country's
best fishing sites. A new partnership with Fins & Skins will
allow Bill to broaden that experience and bring informative reports
about exciting fish & golf destinations to the Fins & Skins
website.
